TN moves privilege breach case against AIADMK MLA
Chennai, Apr 28 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker R Avudaiappan today referred to the Privilege Committee the breach of privilege case against former AIADMK minister and party Whip K A Sengottaiyan.
Minister for Law and Public Works Durai Murugan moved the case against Mr Sengottiyan for the latters' statement accusing him in connection with the tea estate workers wage issue.
After the Congress legislator Kovaithangam raised the issue in the Assembly and wanted to know whether the AIADMK would ensure enhanced wages for workers in Kodanadu tea estate also, Mr Sengottian, instead of answering him in the house, issued a statement accusing him.
Holding that Mr Sengottian, prima-facie breached the privilege, Speaker A Avudaiappan referred the matter to the Committee.
Mr Sengottian said he was forced to issue a statement outside, as he was not given time and opportunity to reply to Kovaithangam's charge in the house.
Mr Murgan contended that Mr Sengottian's statement concerning the Assembly proceedings would amount to breach of privilege of the house.
