Steps to enhance subsidy for adi dravidars being taken
Puducherry, Apr 28 (UNI) The Puducherry administration is taking steps to enhance the subsidy for Adi Dravidars to construct houses in the free housesite pattas provided to them to Rs one lakh, Social Welfare Minister M Kandasamy told the Legislative Assembly today.
Replying to a question, he said a file in this regard had been putforth and it would be implemented after obtaining permission.
Following a demand from Mr Anbazhagan (AIADMK) that considering the rise in prices of construction materials, the government should provide at least Rs 3 lakh to construct the houses, Mr Kandasamy said the demand for his department would be taken up shortly and the request of the member would be considered after consulting the Chief Minister.
Replying to another question, Chief Minister N Rangasamy said a committee under Welfare Minister had been constituted to properly utilise the Special Component Plan (SCP) for Adi dravidars and Rs 283.33 crore had been allocated under the SCP.
The administration would ensure soci-economic changes of the Adi dravidars here by implementing several welfare schemes for them, he added.
