Kohima, Apr 28 (UNI) Amid tense situation in Dimapur following inter-factional clashes between rival factions of NSCN, unidentified miscreants fired upon Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel manning a Mobile Vehicle Check Post.
Official sources said here today that the IRB personnel were on a vehicle frisking duty in the Purana Bazar area of Dimapur town yesterday, when some unidentified gunmen, armed with automatic rifles and pistols, fired on the Armymen from atop a building, about 100 feet away from the Check Post.
However, no casualties were reported from the IRB side.
The IRB personnel also retaliated, but the miscreants fled under cover of darkness.
On receiving the information, Dimapur Superintendent of Police Lirimo Lotha and other senior police officials rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
Earlier, NSCN-IM cadres had shot dead one IRB jawan on April 25 in Diphupar 'B' village under Dimapur town.
Meanwhile, the Dimapur district administration beefed up the security measures throughout the district to prevent any inter-factional clashes among the warring NSCN outfits and for the protection of the lives and properties of the citizens, the sources said.
