Lucknow, Apr 28 (UNI) Polling for the Biennial election for eleven seats of the Uttar Pradesh legislative council today concluded peacefully with about 70.8 per cent voting in teachers constituency and 41.6 per cent in graduate constituency.
An average of about 15 per cent of the electorate have exercised their franchise in the polling for six teachers and 5 graduate constituencies till noon.
The polling was underway in a peaceful note and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere, police headquarters here said.
According to state election office sources, till 1200 hrs, 18 per cent voting was recorded in six teachers seats while 12 per cent electorate have voted in 5 graduate seats.
Altogether 6,87,000 voters will decide the fate of 180 candidates of which 46 are trying for the teachers constituencies and rest 134 for the graduate seats.
The teachers constituencies are Lucknow, Meerut, Faizabad-Gorakhpur, Agra, Varanasi and Bareilly, while the graduate seats are Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Varanasi and Allahabad-Jhansi.
Counting of votes would be done on April 30.
