Notorious rowdy gang arrested, arms seized

Bangalore, Apr 28: The Organised Crime Wing of City Crime Branch have arrested a gang of five notorious rowdies, including one from Mumbai, and recovered a cache of fire arms including a SBBL Short Gun and two pistols, City Police Commissioner Neelam Achyuth Rao said today.

Addressing newspersons here, Mr Rao said following a tip-off the CCB team swooped down on the gang of Khaleel alias Tharakari Khalees waiting to attack rival gang leader Rowdy Thanveer near Wilson Garden Area in the city last night.

The culprits, who were waiting to waylay Thanveer and his associates were taken aback with the arrival of police and surrendered without any resistance.

The arrested included Tarakari Khaleel, Jameer Ahamed, Ashraf, Nadeem and Mumbai-based Lallu Bhavaji Bhai Patil.

Mr Rao said Tarakari Khaleel was involved in over 30 criminal cases, including murders, extortion, attempt to murder, dacoity and robbery under various police stations in the city.

The CCB Police have recovered one SBBL short gun, two pistols, two revolvers, 27 live cartridges, two mobile phones and also two vehicles from their possession.

To a question, Mr Rao said the motive behind the planned attack on Thanveer was mainly old rivalry and the accused had managed to get arms from Uttar Pradesh to accomplish their task.

Mr Rao said the city police also arrested a inter-state gang and seized two luxury cars worth over Rs 25 lakh from them.

The arrested were allegedly in the business of stealing luxury cars and selling them.
