No overall alliances with Trinamool : SUCI
Kolkata, Apr 28 (UNI) Socialist Unity Centre of India(SUCI) state secretary Provash Ghosh today ruled out any overall alliance with the Opposition Trinamool Congress in the coming Panchayat elections.
'' We will contest 63 seats in Zilla Parishad, 427 in Panchayat Samiti and 1775 in Gram Panchayat and as per our strength the party can easily contest on its own in 35 to 40 per cent seats. We will go for a partial alliance with the Trinamool Congress, '' Mr Ghosh told newspersons at meet-the-press here.
'' The overall alliance with the Trinamool Congress in the Panchayat elections has failed due to some unavoidable circumstances, but the seat adjustments with the Trinamool have been done in a few pockets, '' the state secretary said.
He said, ''We have realised that the alliance is necessary to frustrate the CPI(M)'s fascist attitude. '' '' Though we have suggested forming a mass committee, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee has, however, ruled it out as she thinks it is not possible just before the elections, '' Mr Ghosh said.
He alleged the Panchayat system in the state was totally corrupt and a nexus had been formed among the ruling party, businessmen, smugglers and police.
'' We have also wanted to fight in Nandigram along with the Bhumi Ucchhed Pratirodh Committee(BUPC), but we have failed to convince Ms Banerjee, ''he said.
The SUCI and Trinamool Congress relation would last as long as the latter would maintain distance from the Congress and BJP, he stated.
He also alleged that the CPI(M), Congress and the corporate houses did not want an alliance between the SUCI and Trinamool Congress.
'' We want to keep the alliance even after the Panchayat election, ''he said.
