New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) The Municipal Corporation of Delhi today began sealing of units not covered under the 2021 Master Plan of Delhi, in compliance with the order of the Supreme Court, putting to seal 261 units in various parts of the city.

A total of 261 units were sealed in the city on stretches in Vasant Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, Bawana, New Rajinder Nagar and G T karnal Road which do not enjoy exemption from sealing as per Master Plan-2021 and January 30 notification of the Central government, an MCD spokesperson said.

Of the 261 units, 75 were put to seal in Shahdara (N) zone, 61 in Narela zone, 49 in Central zone, 32 in South zone and 26 in west zone, the spokesperson said.

There was, however, no sealing action in the city and Sadar Paharganj zones, the spokesperson said.

The drive comes a day after the end of the deadline for traders operating on such stretches to shut their shops.

Forty sealing teams, including officials from MCD and power and water departments, were formed for the drive, the spokesperson said.

The Supreme Court had on March 10 asked the civic body to seal within three months all shops not covered by the Master Plan for Delhi 2021 or the Central government notification of January 30, 2008.

The MCD had issued a notice asking owners to stop commercial activities within 45 days.

Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP demanded that the centre immediately implement Amnesty scheme to regularise the shops and other constructions coming under the purview of sealing.

BJP Delhi Pradesh President Harshvardhan demanded the Central Urban Development Minister that in view of the public interest he should immediately implement Amnesty scheme to regularise the shops and other constructions coming under the purview of sealing. The Master Plan should be implemented immediately for this purpose.

He warned that if the Congress does not stop sealing then the BJP will start Jail Bharo Movement again.
