Man arrested for stealing ''human bones''
Jammu, Apr 28 (UNI) In an unprecedented incident, an old man was arrested today by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for ''stealing'' human bones from cremation ground here, official sources said.
Sources said that on a complaint registered at Bahu Fort Police Station in the city outskirts this morning, police conducted a raid the residence of one Kailash Kumar, 65, resident of Gorkha Nagar and arrested him.
''During search, we found a bag hanging inside his house, which contained the ''human bones'' of a lady, who expired on April 26,'' Superintendent of Police (SP), South, Zahid Manhas told UNI.
A complaint was registered by one Kishore Kumar, who told the police that when he reached the cremation ground today morning to collect the mortal remains of his mother, identified as Yashodha, 72, found them stolen.
''The locals informed him (Kishore Kumar) about the accused, who was roaming around the cremation ground. He lodged a complaint with the police on which a police party swung into action and arrested the accused and also recovered a bag of ''bones'' from his possession,'' Mr Manhas said.
However, reason behind committing the crime was yet to be ascertained as the accused kept narrating different stories and posing himself as a mentally retarded, the SP said adding that case under Section 297 RPC has been registered against him.
