Kolkata, Apr 28 (UNI) Reacting sarcastically to Ms Sonia Gandhi's statement on Nandigram, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today said the Congress should decide whether it would stand by the people of Nandigram or West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
'' It has been more than a year since the Nandigram incidents took place. Let the Congress first decide whether it would be beside the people of Nandigram or the 'samrat(king) of Nandan, '' she told reporters referring to the Chief Minister's visits to the state-run film centre and auditorium.
'' I would have been happy if the Congress had stood by the people of Nandigram, '' she said while talking to the media after coming out of the Raj Bhavan where she met Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi to lodge complaints on the 'terror tactics' of the CPI(M) ahead of the Panchayat polls in the state.
Alleging that a mockery of democracy was being enacted in the state, Ms Banerjee said she had demanded posting of armed policemen at each booth instead of homeguards.
