Malaria claims 19 lives in Tripura
Agartala, Apr 28 (UNI) About 19 people died of Malaria and more than 100 people were admitted to different hospitals in the last 14 days in Tripura, official sources today said.
Mungiakami block under Taliamura subdivison of West Tripura district was the worst affected with nine deaths reported from there so far.
However, a health worker in Teliamura primary health centre said there was nothing to worry as the centre has adequate medicines to cope up with the situation.
There were also reports from Hrysamukh of South Tripura and Bhandarima of North Tripura district with about ten people succumbing to the disease recently.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has declared all the four districts in as malaria resistant in 2005 and asked the state government to use second generation of medicine to prevent malarial deaths.
Meanwhile, Tribal Welfare Minister Manindra Reang has visited some of the effected areas in the Mungikami block yesterday and asked the medical staff to take necessary steps.
A team of doctors from the Defence Ministry have rushed to the malaria prone areas to take blood samples and ascertain the exact nature of disease.
