Bangalore, Apr 28 (UNI) Karnataka State Hockey Association (KSHA) Secretary Krishnamurthy today welcomed the decision of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to remove IHF President K P S Gill and suspend the body.
Reacting to the IOA's step, Mr Krishnamurthy, who was IHF Joint Secretary, told UNI ''it was a victory to a long fought battle against Mr Gill's un-democratic way of functioning. I am personally happy as the struggle fetched fruits.'' ''However, I feel sorry for the uncermonious removal, but there was no other go, since Mr Gill failed to budge. If he (Mr Gill) had stepped down on moral grounds this situation would not have arised,'' he added.
It may be noted that there were lot of voice against Mr Gill for not involving other office bearers in the functioning of the Association.
Mr Krishnamurthy said ''the decision is good and hope the new body coming to power will function in a democratic way and strive for the promotion of the game.'' Replying to a question, he said ''no doubt Mr Gill was a towering personality, but not a sports administrator.'' UNI MSP GKT RKM AS2131
