Entrance exam issue rocks Assembly
Puducherry, Apr 28 (UNI) The Puducherry Legislative Assembly was in chaos today on the issue of abolishing entrance examination for admissions to professional courses in the union territory. .
Tabling the issue through a special mention during Zero Hour, PMC member Anand wanted to know whether the administration had issued the GO in this regard, since the House was told that the Education Secretary would rush to Andaman and Nicobar islands with the file to get the signature of Lt Governor Bhopinder Singh.
Replying to it, Chief Minister N Rangasamy, citing a petition in the Madras High Court on the issue, said the Lt Governor had sought some more clarifications and returned the file.
With several members joining the issue, the House witnessed uprorious scenes.
Stating that the administration would study the modalities adopted by the Tamil Nadu government, the Chief Minister said a GO could be issued only with the approval of the Lt Governor and all steps were being taken to get the approval of the Lt Governor by providing the clarifications sought by him.
Speaker R Radhakrishnan pacified the members by stating that the question of abolishing the entrance examination was the policy decision of the government.
As the Chief Minister had assured that steps would be taken to issue the GO in this reagrd there was no need for the members to have further discussion on it and passed on to other questions.
