Mumbai, Apr 28 (UNI) Well-known composer A R Rahman today launched a competition to remix two new songs from his upcoming film -- 'Ada...a way of life' -- with Nokia and music label Big Music here.
''This is a new attempt at letting young people try their hand at composing and mixing tracks. The tracks -- 'Gulfisha' and 'Gum Shum' have been chosen as they have strong rythmns and are suitable to remix,'' Rahman said.
Contestants can log on to Nokia's 'XpressMusic' site and remix either of the pre-loaded tunes for a chance to spend a day with the composer for the final remix and participate in the music video.
Talking to mediapersons here today, Rahman said the music industry has evolved over the years from vinyl records, cassettes and CDs to interactive music with the average age of buyers also coming down.
Such competitions would expose and harness the creative talents of Gen Y.'' Music is organic and can be moulded to suit the taste of the audience,'' he said.
The composer-singer further said he was currently working on a solo album and eight Bollywood films, in which he has composed the soundtrack, which are due for release this year.
According to studies, in 2007, mobiles have been the most preferred mode of purchasing music among customers in India. Mobiles would also comprise of 75 per cent of all music sales in Asia by 2009.
