Youth shot dead by car-=borne assailants

Nurpur Bedi, Rupnagar, Apr 27 (UNI) A 27-year-old youth was shot dead by some car-borne persons at village Sangatpur near Nurpur Bedi on Anandpur Sahib-Nurpur Bedi road in Rupnagar district, police today said.

According to information, the incident took place last night when Kesar Singh, a resident of village Jaitewal and his three friends were going towards Nurpur Bedi from Anandpur Sahib on two motorcycles on Anandpur Sahib-Nurpur Bedi road.

As they reached near village Sangatpur bus stand, some Indica car borne persons fired at Kesar Singh, who was sitting behind one of the motorcycles and fled away. Kesar was rushed to Bhai Jaita hospital Anandpur Sahib from where he was reffered to Civil hospital here due to his serious condition.

However, he sucumbed to his injuries on way to Rupnagar hospital.

Police have registered a case under section 302,34,120 of IPC and section 25,54,59 of Arms Act against Bachittar Singh, Baljit Singh, Lakhbir Singh of village Bhaowal and All India Sikh Students Federation former district presidet Ajwinder Singh Beinhara on the complaint of Harvinder Singh Deputy, who was accompanying Kesar singh on one of the motorcycles.

However, no arrest has been made so far.

The police have recovered a mobile phone and a pair of 'Chappals' from the spot. Old enmity is said to be the cause of murder.

Meanwhile, resentment prevailed among the residents of the area over the murder of Kesar singh, a popular volleyball player of the area.

They threatened that the body would not be cremated if the accused were not arrested by tomorrow.

Rupnagar SSP Praveen Kumar Sinha said police had launched a hunt to arrest the accused.
