Tiruchirapalli, Apr 27 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) is planning to launch a new political party shortly to participate in future elections in the state, TMMK President M H Jawahar Rirullah said today.
Addressing a press conference after attending the party's State Women Wing Executive here, he said presently the TMMK was working for the uplift of the Muslim minority.
However, it was decided to launch a new plotical party to take part in all future elections, and all preliminary works were going on in this regard, he added.
He said the TMMK had decided to perform Jummah prayer at the Nawab mosque inside the Vellore Fort on May nine next.
The Archeological Society of India (ASI), which was look after the fort, had refused Muslims to perform prayer inside the fort citing the protection reason of the mosque under the Ancient Monument Act, he said.
However, the ASI had allowed Hindus to worship at the Lord Jalakandeswar temple inside the fort as well as Chiristians to offer prayer in a church there, he alleged.
He also alleged that some anti-national elements were trying to create tension on politicising the issue.
Appealing the Tamil Nadu Government to take suitable action against such anti-national elements, he urged the state government and the Centre to permit the Muslims to perform prayer at the mosque.
He urged the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre to implement Ranganath Mishra commission report recommending exclusive reservation for Muslims and other minorities in education and employment opportunities.
If the Congress failed to take initiative to implement the report, the TMMK would not support the Congress in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, he added.
However, the TMMK would extend its support to ruling DMK as they honoured the election promise and implemented exclusive reservation for minorities in the state, he said.
