Madikeri, Apr 27 (UNI) Kodagu goes to assembly poll on May 10. The assembly segments are reduced to two with Madikeri and Viarjpet from three after the announcement of the Delimitation.
It looks a straight contest between Congress former MLA B A Jeevavijaya and BJP Appachu Ranjan in Madikeri.
K N Vasanth is given JD (S) ticket. JD (S) as a party has no base in this constituency. He is trying to capture his Virashaiva community votes in the constituency.
In Virajpet, the swiftness is seen to gain the voters grace. It seems a triangle contest here. Sitting MLC Arun Machiah who just resigned from the post to contest from the JD (S) is fast in meeting the rural voters.
Veena Achaiah, Congress candidate has a team of volunteers to meet the voters in different areas.
SP and BSP have also fielded their candidates making total 5 candidates in the fray.
In Madikeri constituency 90,264 men and 89,596 women are eligible to vote. A total of 1,79,860 voters have the right.
In Virajpet constituency 95,384 women and 93,541 men have the right to vote. Women voters dominate here.
The newly announced Madikeri constituency includes all the places in Somwarpet taluk in addition to this the constituency is added with 23 wards in Madikeri town Municipal limits.
Virajpet constituency is added by Sampaje, Bhgamandala and Napoklu villages in addition to the whole of Virajpet taluk.
