Bhubaneswar, Apr 26 (UNI) The 24,000-crore Vedant University, under the aegis of the Anil Agarwal Foundation, will lay the foundation of a 600-bed Hospital and Medical College in next few months, Chairman Anil Agarwal announced here today.

Mr Agarwal met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior officials at the state secretariat and discussed with them the proposed world class multi-disciplinary Vedant University on the Puri Konark marine drive.

Speaking to newspersons later, Mr Agarwal said the Medical College and Hospital would come up within 18 months of its laying the foundation stone.

Talking on stiff resistance by local people against the Vedant University project, Mr Agarwal said the Foundation would implement the Rehabilitation and Resettlement Policy adopted by the Orissa government, which had been adjudged as one of the best policies in the country.

On the strong opposition from Opposition political parties and local people over the issue of acquisition of vast stretches of land on the Puri Konark marine drive, Mr Agarwal reiterated that the University project would require nearly 6,000 acres of land and claimed that the project was on schedule.

Replying to a question, he said the Medical College and Hospital will provide 25 per cent of its seats to students from Orissa on merit-basis with the motive to give a boost to the youth of the state.
