State faces severe heat, Mathura reaches 44.8

Lucknow, Apr 26: Hot wave conditions continued to prevail at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh with the temperature touching 44.8 degrees Celsius in Mathura.

According to the weatherman, temperature was appreciably above normal in Faizabad, Allahabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly and Meerut, while Gorakhpur and Jhansi were recorded above normal.

Mathura was the hottest at 44.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Varanasi 44.5, Sultanpur 44.4, Gorakhpur 44.3, Jhansi and Kanpur 43, Lucknow 42 and Bareilly 41.2, which varied from 2 to 4 degrees above normal.

The blistering heat is forcing people to stay indoors during day time.

Unscheduled power cuts and shortage of drinking water further adds to the woes of the UPites. Overseeing the hot weather, the district administration has ordered closure of schools at 12 noon in various cities, comprising Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareilly and Agra.

In Varanasi, the district magistrate has directed summer vaccation from April 28.

Meanwhile, the met department has forecast a dry weather in the state for next 24 hrs.
