Modi slams UPA over inflation

{image-narendra modi_26042008.jpg www.oneindia.com}Indore, Apr 26: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today alleged that inflation spiralled since the United Progressive Alliance assumed the reins at the Centre and its coalition partners were having a great time.

''In a democracy, the opposition cannot be prevented from making an issue of the price rise,'' he said here while inaugurating the Annapurna Yojana of Madhya Pradesh's Bharatiya Janata Party government. The scheme envisages providing foodgrain at economical prices to the poor.

On the one hand, Indian farmers were not receiving adequate support price while on the other wheat was being imported at high rates, Mr Modi said while wondering who was receiving commission for such import.

''The Centre deleted lakhs of names from the Below Poverty List pertaining to Madhya Pradesh, reduced wheat and coal allocation and power quota,'' said Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
