Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) Kolkata Knight Riders took off on a flying start but collapsed after a 32-run first wicket stand for 147 for 9 in 20 overs, batting first after winning the toss in their third Indian Premier League(IPL) Match against Chennai Super Kings at the M A Chidambaram Stadium here today.
A full house even before the contest got off to great expectations, a great booster for the Super Kings who had to take the field.
They lived upto the expectations after the Knight Riders Openers, Captain Saurav Ganguly and Brenden McCullum, the Kiwi, seemed to be off to a great start putting on 32 runs in 2.3 overs.
McCullum hit 16 runs in the over off Mahendra Singh Ghoni, including two fours and a six. Earlier in the first over, Sourav helped himself with six runs, a brace first and a slash to point for a four.
But the Riders slumped, as first Mc Culum fell to a catch off Suresh Raina at mid-off top edging an intended pull to midwicket.
He made 24 off 12 balls with two sixes and two fours. Down 1-32 in 2.3 overs, the Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata team lost Ricky Ponting, the Aussie Captain, off the next ball. He guided an intended drive to Raina off the Kiwi medium pacer Jacob Oram again.
At 32-2 in 2.4 overs, the Riders neded a rescue act albeit scoring at 9.65 an over. Wriddhiman Saha joined Sourav and the two posted the 50 in five overs.
