JEC for implementation of election code in assembly polls

Madikeri, Apr 26 (UNI) Central Joint Election Commissioner(JEC) R Bhattacharya today called for strict implementation of the election code in the ensuing assembly elections in Karnataka.

Addressing officials on his visit to study the preparedness for the elections in the State, he held meeting with Deputy Commissioner K R Niranjan, who briefed him about the arrangements made for smooth conduct of elections.

Mr Bhattacharya insisted on strict adherence of election code of conduct. He advised the district administration and police chiefs to follow election discipline strictly and see that the districts remain a model one in the State.

Addressing the election observer, accounts observer and officials, he asked them to verify the booths, voters lists and accounts positions over and again. Police and excise department were asked to monitor cross - border smuggling of liquor during the elections. He also advised to keep an eye on sensitive to super sensitive polling centres.

IGP Gaonkar, Divisional commissioner Dhananjay, Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner held meetings with the officials to gear up for polling. Dates were fixed to train the officials to conduct polling. Electronic Voting Machines(EVM) would be used during polling this time.

Election Officer to Madikeri, Akram Pasha said two teams were formed to manage postal ballots in the head post - offices. Training would be given to postal employees to manage the polling. Though the postal polling system did exist earlier, it was being given more attention this time.
