Enforcement Cell to check illegal gifts to win voters

Mysore, Apr 26 (UNI) Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Mysore P Manivannan today instructed the Commercial Tax Department's Enforcement Cell to check the purchase of articles from the business houses in and around the city, to stop illegal gifts to win voters during coming elections in the state.

Speaking to newspersons, he said the Department of Commercial Tax had already began to check business houses on the purchase of sarees, white goods and gold and silver ornaments.

The Department had also urged business people to cooperate with the district administration by providing correct information about the purchase of articles in bulk by anyone during the election period.

He said the police had arrested 32 people in H D Kote Taluk Area for allegedly preparing 'Neera' for distribution to the people during the elections.

Representatives of political parties, who met today, agreed not to use microphones during election campaign in the district. An order would be issued in this regard, he added.

He also announced ten per cent incentives for those who provided information about the illegal storage of liquor and its bulk sale in the district and the names of such persons would be protected.
