Bengal to get cooler days: rains likely in next 48 hours

Kolkata, Apr 26 (UNI) Kolkatans may soon get a respite from hot and sultry days with the Meteorological department forecasting a possibility of thundery development later tonight.

Alipore Met office recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal, and minimum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.

The maximum temperature in the city in the next 24 hours is likely to be around 36 degrees Celsius.

Met officials predicted that the sky may turn partly cloudy with thundery development as the day progressed. This condition will continue in most parts of the state for the next two days.

Rain or thundershower is likely to occur in isolated parts of Birbhum, Bankura, Murshidabad, Purulia and Burdwan districts of Gangetic West Bengal. Weather will remain mainly dry over the rest of the plains.

Rain or thundershower is also likely to occur in isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, especially in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar districts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. Rain has already taken place in these districts today.

Maximum temperature fell at many places in Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri and Coochbehar districts of the Sub-Himalayan region and has changed little in the rest of the region.

Alipore Met officials said that under the influence of trough of low pressure over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea, a low pressure area has formed over Southeast Bay of Bengal. According to them this condition is likely to intensify further.
