Mumbai, Apr 26 (UNI) Veteran Actor Anupam Kher is all set to enact role of a commonman ''Mr Bhattu'' in the comedy film ''Mr Bhattu on Chutti''.
Speaking at a press conference here yesterday, Kher said ''Mr Bhattu is a commonman from Bhayander, who addresses important global issues. He gets into a lot of trouble, but ultimately saves the world.'' Denying that the character was based on ''Mr Bean'', a popular Hollywood character famous for his comic acting, or television actor Jaspal Bhatti, the actor said the character and story was more in line with works of comic greats Charlie Chaplin and Peter Sellers.
Written and directed by Karan Razdan, the film depicts Mr Bhattu's incident filled holidays in England, his attempts to contact the President of United States, and his ultimate success in saving the world.
The film, to be released worldwide by June-end, also has Amitabh Bachchan in a cameo role.
''Though the film is a comedy and meant to entertain, it also has a message for world peace which has been presented in a subtle way.
Unlike some art films, we didn't want to badger the audience with social messages,'' Mr Razdan said.
''The selling point is 'Mr Bhattu' himself, who I feel the kids and families will love. Amitabh's presence is also there throughout the film, although he only has a cameo role. I believe we can make movies with characters like 'Mr Bhattu' in lead roles, he added.
Producer Ashwani Chopra said scripts for the film's sequels titled ''Bhattu in China'' to be predictably shot in China, and ''Bhattu Bhattu Bang, Bang'' to be shot in Bangkok are ready and would depend on the film's performance at the box office.
