Madurai, Apr 26 (UNI) Stating that the 'joint efforts' of the allies are vital for development, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK chief M Karunanidhi said ''the same alliance should continue for the bright future of Tamil Nadu.'' Speaking to reporters after laying the foundation stone for the new Integrated Terminal Building at the Madurai airport and also for two IT parks here tonight, Mr Karunanidhi said the joint efforts of the allies had helped the state to get maximum funds from the Centre for the development projects during the last four years. He claimed that the Centre had given more funds to Tamil Nadu than to any other state and that had helped the overall development of the state.
He said ''it was the 'Hand' (Congress symbol) that had lighted the lamp to remove the darkness in the state and the 'Sickle and Hammer' (CPM symbol) had provided protection to the Hand.'' ''We will work together for the state to flourish in all fronts and the present alliance should continue for the lamp to spread its light in the state,'' he said.
Taking a dig at his arch rival and AIADMK chief J Jayalalitha's recent call to her partymen to light lamps in their houses, Karunanidhi commented that while the DMK lit the lamp to remove darkness in the state, some persons lit lamps in front of their houses, that too on the full moon day only for their goodness, on the advise of Kerala Tantriks.
