Students need not to write exam again: Minister
Chennai, Apr 25 (UNI) School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu today informed the Tamil Nadu Assembly that students whose Standard X English Paper answer sheets were destroyed in a fire at a school in Vellore District need not write the examination again.
Making a statement under Rule 110, the minister said a total of 52,020 answer scripts of various subjects were stored in a room at the Voorhees Higher Secondary School.
Noticing smoke emanating from the sealed room at around 2130 hrs, the night watchman and a police constable on duty informed the Fire Services Personnel, who rushed to the spot, broke open the door and doused the flames, thus saving answer sheets of other subjects.
However, the English Paper II answer scripts from Villupuram Education District were destroyed.
Government Examinations Joint Director and Deputy Director visited the spot. Since the police and experts were investigating the incident, details on answer scripts destroyed, would be known only later.
Mr Thennarasu said the government followed a set procedure when such incidents occurred and the students need not take up the examinations again.
