Red alert in VVIP area after bomb blast

Imphal, Apr 25: The entire VVIP colony at Babupara here was cordoned off today following a bomb blast near a MLA's residence yesterday, that left three people, including a woman, injured.

The injured were undergoing treatment at RIMS.

The VVIP colony in the capital city houses the official residence of the Chief Minister and MLAs.

All the vehicles entering the area are being checked thoroughly and not a single one is also allowed inside the Khwairamband Keithel, the main market, police said adding that all the roadside shops were also evicted.

Police said a powerful bomb, fitted on a two-wheeler parked near Congress MLA T Mangibabu's residence, went off injuring three people and damaging his and Tourism Minister T N Haokip's official residence.

However, no one has been arrested in this connection so far, police said and added that investigation was on.

Meanwhile, police have also recovered another bomb near the Imphal pologround yesterday.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaikhangam has condemned the blast at public places as 'inhuman' and 'cowardly'.
