New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Delhi High Court has directed the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), CEO of Delhi Jal Board(DJB) and the Commissioner of MCD to file a reply as to how an unauthorised office of the Election Commission had come up in a park meant for the residents in the Green Park Extension.
Taking a serious note of the application filed by the Green Park Extension Residents Association, Justice Kailash Gambhir asked the DJB that under what capacity it can grant permission to the CEC to have a temporary structure there.
Ms Anju Bhattacharya, counsel for the EC, stated that they needed a temporary office in the green area for a period of two years. The DJB, which takes care of the water pump there, granted permission to raise a temporary structure there.
MCD counsel Mallika Poswal told the court that the entire area had been taken over by DMRC for the parking activities.
Garima Prasad, counsel for the residents, said that the construction raised by the Election Commission there was absolutely illegal as it was a private colony. Even MCD had no hold over it except for its maintenance. The park in question was the sole property of the petitioners and the children of the colony were being deprived of the park.
