Dozen injured, complete shut down in Baramulla
Baramulla, Apr 25 (UNI) About a dozen protesters were injured when police fired teargass shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse them in Baramulla town even as life was crippled for the third day today in protest against the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants on Wednesday.
People in the town took to the streets immediately after Friday prayers. They marched through different streets, raising '' pro-freedom and anti-security force slogans'.
However, the trouble started when people started pelting stones at the police and security forces at Khawaja Bagh.
The police fired teargass shells after repeated lathicharge failed to quell demonstrators, who were raising slogans in favour of slain HM militants and against security forces.
Official sources said about a dozen people was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments in the town and nearby areas remained closed for the third day today. Traffic was also off the roads and work in government offices, banks and educational institutions was affected due to strike.
The strike was observed in protest against the killing of two HM commanders in an encounter at Khawaja Bagh.
