Centre's clearance dispensed with for greenfield airports
New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) A greenfield airport can now be set up beyond 150 km of an existing civilian airport without the mandatory approval of the Government.
Airports for cargo or non-scheduled flights and for heliports also need not take approval of the Civil Aviation Ministry.
All these cases will now be considered by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DDGA), according to the guidelines approved by the Government for setting up greenfield airports.
In case an airport has to be set up within 150 km of an existing civilian airport, the application will be considered by the Steering Committee, to be set up under the chairmanship of Civil Aviation Secretary.
The Committee will coordinate and monitor the clearances required from various agencies for setting up an airport, an official statement said here today.
