Mumbai, Apr 25 (UNI) All the 24 assistant municipal commissioners (AMCs) will be empowered to issue marriage certificates to newly-weds in their respective wards.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak, while speaking to reporters here today, said that besides issuing birth and death certificates, ward offices will be allowed to issue marriage certificates soon and the decision for the same will be taken in the first week of May.
''The AMC's in all the 24 wards will be empowered to issue marriage certificates, thus reducing the burden on the registrar's office,'' Mr Phatak said.
However, the marriages will continue to be conducted at the registrar's office and not at the ward offices which will only have the power to issue marriage certificates, he clarified.
