New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) Products and services in the country's burgeoning telecom sector should be 'standardised' according to the think tank of the ITU-APT Foundation.
The think tank further proposed establishing an 'Indian Telecom Standards Institute' (ITSI) and in order to discharge its functions of regulating and controlling equipment technology and service standards.
''In order to discharge its function in a free and unfettered manner, the subjects entrusted to the ITSI should be taken out of the purview of DoT, BIS and other concerned Ministries.
The Think Tank comprises professionals with long experience and holding or having held top positions in the Government and Private Sector.
As in many other countries, this foundation would, inter alia, harmonise views of the industry, public and private sectors in the context of various activities of the UN telecom agencies, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT).
The scope of the foundation covers broadcasting, space sciences, information technology with special emphasis on rural areas.
