Opposition demands PM's resignation over rising prices
New Delhi, Apr 24 (UNI) The BJP-led NDA today stalled the proceedings of the Lok Sabha, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his Government's failure to contain inflation.
Minutes before the Question Hour was to end, the Opposition members, who had been protesting outside against the rising prices of essential commodities, entered the House, shouting slogan: ''Mehangayi ko jo rok na paye, vo sarkar nikammi hai (The government that cannot check the price rise is useless).'' They then entered the well, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
''UPA hai hai (Down with UPA)'', ''Prime Minister istifa do (Prime Minister step down),'' they shouted.
Amid the din, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee asked the members, who had been listed, to lay papers. Even after this, pandemonium prevailed despite the pleas of the chair.
The Speaker said it was unfortunate that the members were not heeding his pleas even after his announcement that he would allow the price rise issue to be raised in the House.
Saying that he strongly condemn their behaviour, Mr Chatterjee then adjourned the House for two hours till 1400 hrs.
