Kohima, Apr 24: Nagaland Peoples Front (NPF) has resolved to take initiative to form Upper House (Legislative Council) in the Nagaland Assembly.
Party sources today said the decision was taken in the Front's Central Executive Council(CEC) meeting at their central office here yesterday. It was decided to work towards increasing the seats in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the present strength of 60 to 80.
The meeting also resolved to work for more seats in both the Houses of Parliament.
This was the first CEC meeting of the NPF after the Assembly polls in Nagaland.
The meeting also decided to explore avenues to help restore the legitimate rights with well-defined territories for the Nagas of Myanmar and highlight their plight to the authorities concermed.
On political issues regarding Nagaland's relation with the Union government, the meeting resolved to work with committment and assist in every possible way, on any approach for a peaceful solution to the issue.
It also decided to vigorously persue a mediator's role for peace talks with the Centre and pave way for an alternative arrangement in the event of an honourable and acceptable political settlement.
The meeting also resolved to urge the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland(DAN) to immediately step up its action in the face of turmoil confronting the state.
