Jagadhri, Apr 24 (UNI) A local court today held a 50-year-old man guilty of raping his minor daughter and sentenced him to 10-year imprisonment and fine of Rs 5000.
Giving the verdict in less than a year, District and Sessions judge Virender Singh also held Chander Kumar, a resident of Lakshmi Nagar locality, guilty of intimidating his daughter into silence with threat to kill her, and sentenced him to further six months in jail and slapped a fine of Rs 1,000.
In case of non-payment of the fine, he would have to serve further six months in prison.
According to police, the victim, a 14-year-old ninth class student, had launched the complaint in Farakpur police station on June 13, 2007 alleging that her alcoholic father had been raping her for about a year under threat of life.
The girl, whose mother had left their home six years back, had mustered up courage when the torture became unbearable and confided in her paternal uncle and aunt who accompanied her to the police station.
The police had arrested the culprit on June 16.
