Cong gears up for Zila Parishad polls in Punjab

Chandigarh, Apr 24 (UNI) The Punjab Congress has geared up its organisational machinery for the ensuing Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in the State scheduled to be held on May 2.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Rajinder Kaur Bhattal today appointed the Vice President's/General Secretary's of the PPCC as incharge of districts. They will hold meetings in their respective districts for choosing the candidates for the polls.

According to PPCC chief spokesman Bir Devinder Singh, the state units working president Mohinder Singh Kaypee will be incharge of Amritsar district.

Other's who have been appointed as district incharges are-- Tarn Taran, Malkiat Singh Dakha, Jalandhar, Tej Parkash Singh, Kapurthala, Amarjit Singh Samra, Ludhiana, Lal Singh, Patiala, Sardul Singh, Sangrur, Avtar Singh Brar, Moga, Vijay Khullar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Braham Mohindera, Nawanshahar, Gurbinder Singh Atwal, Muktsar, Bal Mukand Sharma, Faridkot, Avtar Henry, Bathinda, Kewal Singh Dhillon, Ferozepur, Gurchet Singh Bhullar, Barnala, Harminder Singh Jassi, Mansa, Upender Sharma, Hoshiarpur Pratap Singh Bajwa, Ropar- Harnam Dass Johar, Gurdaspur, K K Nanda and Mohali, Prof Darbari Lal.

Mr Bir Devinder said that the Presidents of District Congress Committees have been directed to hold meetings of Committees consisting of MLAs/Ex MLAs, Block Congress Presidents and District Heads of Frontal Organisations and Cells and submit their final recommendation through the respective District Incharge by April 27 to Mrs Bhattal for final decision and announcement of candidates in the polls.
