Action against medical colleges taking capitation fee: Minister
New Delhi, Apr 23 (UNI) Health Minister A Ramadoss today said severe action would be taken against medical colleges taking capitation fee.
''Though capitation fee is not allowed, some medical colleges may be taking it clandestinely,'' Dr Ramadoss said in the Lok Sabha.
''We will take severe action against such colleges,'' he said during Question Hour and added that the State Governments were also empowered to take action against these colleges.
Replying to the main question, he said the country was facing a shortage of health centres, doctors, nurses and karamcharis.
There is a shortfall of 4,833 primary health centres (PHCs), 2,525 community health centres (CHCs), 11,063 specialist doctors, 30,909 nurses and 14,314 lab technicians at these centres, he said.
