Mumbai, Apr 24 (UNI) Critically acclaimed Bollywood actor-director Aamir Khan today received a special award from 'Master Dinanath Mangeshkar Smruti Pratisthan' for his sterling contribution to Indian Cinema.
He received the award from melody queen Lata Mangeshkar at the Shanmukhananda Hall at Sion in Northeast Mumbai tonight.
This is for the first time that the actor has turned up in person to receive an award. Clad in a pair of jean and a black shirt, the actor was limping badly due to a pulled muscle as he went up to the stage to receive the coveted award.
Lata said ''Normally, Aamir does not attend any award function nor accepts any prizes but he readily agreed to do so''. Today, is the 66th death anniversary of renowned hindustani classical vocalist Dinanath Mangeshkar, Lata's father.
Earlier in the day, Aamir Khan flew back to Mumbai from Hyderabad, where had he pulled a hamstring muscle while performing an action sequence for his upcoming film ''Ghajini'.
The actor was shooting at Ramoji film city since 0700 hrs yesterday, industry sources here said. He pulled the hamstring muscle when he was enacting an action sequence, while picking up a man and throwing him against the wall. Being in severe pain, he was unable to get up and immediately a physiotherapist was summoned, the sources said.
From the aiport, Aamir was driven to his Pali hill residence at Bandra. 'The injury was not of a serious nature', sources close to the actor said, adding the shooting for the film, being directed by A R Murgadass, has been cancelled, and will resume after the actor recovers fully.
The multi-crore film is scheduled for release this October, the sources added.
