Indore, Apr 23 (UNI) Congress General Secretary and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijay Singh today said Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh's statement on party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate could not be viewed as ''sycophancy''.
Talking to reporters here, he said that Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief M Karunanidhi and Nationalist Congress Party President Sharad Pawar felt the same way.
He also described Mr Gandhi as an energetic leader.
''If any senior and elderly leader points out any potential in anybody then it cannot be taken as sycophancy,'' said Mr Singh, adding that he did not want to indulge in the debate of prime ministerial candidacy.
Mr Singh said he would back and Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath for the post of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister.
