President Patil conferred with Doctorate in Chile
Santiago, Apr 23 (UNI) President Pratibha Devisingh Patil has been conferred with Doctorate for her contribution in politics by Chile University.
After receiving the doctorate from University's Chancellor Prof Perez Vera yesterday, she said there were much possibilities of cooperation between India and Chile in the field of education, which would help the citizens of both the nations.
She said both the countries could cooperate in Science and Technology, Social Science, Engineering and Medicine especially Ayurveda, Nano technology, Bio technology and Information Technology.
In the last phase of her trip to Latin American countries Brazil, Mexico and Chile, Ms Patil emphasised on public relations. For that, she went to an Indian school here and spent time with the students.
In that school, about 850 poor children of Chile are given free education.
In order to enhance the relations between both the nations, Chile President Michelle Bachelet expressed hope that talks related to free trade agreement between the nations would be initiated soon.
Ms Patil said, ''During her trip, successful discussions related to regional and international issues were held. Our main aim was to work together. Our relations have become stronger in the near past.
Now, more emphasis should be laid on investment.'' She said some Indian companies have been waiting for an opportunity to work with Chile and were hopeful especially in infrastructure, investment from Chile would improve.
Ms Patil hoped for strong cooperation on international issues such as reforms in United Nations, terrorism , climate change, among others.
