Nigeria moves to semi-finals

By Staff

Kannur, Apr 23 (UNI) Bayelso United FC, Nigeria, moved to the semi-finals of the second E K Nayanar Memorail Gold Cup International Football Tournament holding Air India, Mumbai, to a 1-1 draw in their last league encounter today.

Nigerian forward Ebinepreye Tobi Gariga put Bayelso ahead with a nice header in the 36th minute. However, the joy did not last long, as the hardworking Airmen brought the parity through Bashiru M Abass with another header in the last minute before parting for lemon break.

Though the Airmen had showed some brilliance in the first session and even created three scoring chances, their strikers failed to capitalise it.

However, the second session found Nigerians taking control of the game and the rest of the time, the match was conducted at the rival goal area.

With seven points, Nigeria stood top in group ''B'' and the other team from the group would be decided from the match between Air India, who scored four points from two mataches, and INSC Manipur.
