JSM opposes inclusion of Noel Parmar in SIT team

Ahmedabad, Apr 23 (UNI) Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM), an NGO representing the 2002 Godhra riot victims before the Nanavati Commission, has written to the Chairman of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), opposing the inclusion of DYSP Noel Parmar in the team.

They are also opposing the incorporation of similar police officers in the sub-investigations team of SIT, appointed by Supreme Court to reinvestigate the Godhra massacre and post Godhra riots of Gujarat.

On behalf of JSM, Advocate Dr Mukul Sinha said in view of the direct involvement of Mr Parmar in the Godhra Case, he should not be included in any investigating team of SIT to assist in the investigation of any of the 10 cases.

Similarly, he said no police officer, who has been associated or involved with the investigation of any of the 10 cases, ought not to be included in any investigation team to assist the SIT.

Advocate Dr Sinha in his communique, said, ''We have come to know from newspaper reports that Mr Parmar, DYSP has been appointed and included in a sub-investigations team to assist the SIT in investigating the 10 cases, entrusted by the Apex Court.'' As per our information, Mr Parmar is the investigation officer of the Godhra Case, arising out of C R No 9/02, registered with the Godhra Railway Police, Dr Sinha said. The accused complained that in the said cases Mr Parmar has not carried out a fair investigation into the offence, but has falsely created the ''terrorist'' theory to implicate innocent Muslims, Dr Sinha alleged.

The Central Review Committee of POTA has in fact rejected the ''terrorist'' theory of Mr Parmar and quashed all the charges under POTA leveled against all the accused.
