Amritsar, Apr 23 : Students staged a rally with a seven feet long book on Wednesday to mark World Book Day.

"Today, we are having a special rally for knowledge and to increase the promotion of books in our lives," said Gorika, a student.

The students held aloft the 10-feet high book on their school bus which was decorated with quotations and posters to spread the message of literacy. The tall book named as 'Big Book' has a number of inspiring quotes like 'Books are your best friends', 'Dreams come true with knowledge' and 'Life without books is like a room without a friend'.

They also distributed books to people as they toured through the streets of the city.

The students sang 'We shall overcome illiteracy' as they walked through thetreets.

The teachers of the school said that the Internet era is bound to attract the younger generation, but students cannot stay away from the aura of books.

The day did manage to generate enthusiasm among students as they rallied the tall book and distributed books to the people.

The main aim of World Book Day (WBD) is to encourage people to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own.
