Talks with Kuki militants of soon: Manipur Govt

Imphal, Apr 22: The Manipur government was considering initiating soon talks with the Kuki militants operating in the state, official sources said here today.

The Army have already started SOO (Suspension Of Operations) with the militants, the sources added.

However, the state government and Union Home Ministry have been discussing the details of the ground rules and the modalities for the talks.

The sources said the state government had submitted a proposal to the Union Home Ministry, which was accepted.

The state Cabinet, presided over by Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, discussed the modalities yesterday, they said.

The Cabinet also discussed the ground rules and the Union Home Ministry has to play the main role in the talks, the sources added.

However, the state Chief Secretary and the DGP would be involved in the talks, they said.
