Police detain protestors of PM's visit

Bokaro, Apr 22: About 45 activists of different political parties, who were supposed to hold demonstration here prior to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit today, have been detained so far.

BJP's spokesperson Biranchi Narayan along with 40 party workers took out a rally at Sector II here to burn the effigy of the Prime Minister in protest against the price hike of essential commodities.

However, police took all of them into custody.

Besides, former Jharkhand minister and Vananchal Congress President Samresh Singh, who had announced to protest against Dr Singh's visit, was also detained.

He also announced to take out procession and hold black flag as mark of protest.

Mr Singh had been demanding resettlement and rehabilitation for the displaced due to establishment of the Bokaro Steel Plant.

Prime Minister is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of modernisation and expansion of BSP this afternoon here. After this he is scheduled to leave for Jamshedpur to take part in a brief programme of the Tata Steel Company.
