Chandigarh, Apr 22 (UNI) As per the directions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in all the three assembly constituencies of Indri, Gohana and Adampur in Haryana where bye-elections are to be held on May 22.
While stating this here today, Chief Electoral Officer Sajjan Singh said that notification for the bypolls would be issued on April 28 and last date for filinf nominations would be May 5.
Scrutiny of nominations would be on May 6 and last date for withdrawal of candidature would be May 8.
The date of poll would be May 22 and votes would be counted on May 25. The date of completion of the election process would be May 27.
He said that nomination papers can be filed with the Returning Officer or Assistant Returning Officer for the three assembly constituencies designated by the ECI on any working day from April 28 to May 5, except on May 4, which is a holiday under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
He appealed to the general public and political parties to extend full cooperation to the Election Department to ensure free and fair bye-elections for the three assembly constituencies.
