Election candidate, supporters held in K'taka
Mysore, Apr 22 (UNI) The district election authorities today took into custody an Independent candidate and his 23 supporters for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct by taking out processions before filing his nomination papers to contest from the Chamarajanagar Assembly constituency here.
Talking to newspersons here, Deputy Commissioners' Headquarters Assistant Jayanna said as per the Election Commission's guidelines, the prescribed 120 members would be allowed to take out a procession for a candidate while filing his/her nomination papers.
He said the police authorities have seized two vehicles on the outskirts of the city last night for transporting various political parties' publicity materials without getting permission from the authorities.
The authorities had also filed a case against BJP candidate Shankaralinge Gowda for distributing visiting cards, seeking votes, without the permission of the authorities concerned for printing such publicity materials.
As many as 60 cases were booked against various parties under the Karnataka Open Place (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 1981, while the Police and the Excise Department had booked 349 cases in the district for violation of the Code.
