Hyderabad, Apr 22 (UNI) Terming as 'election stunt' the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N Chandrababu Naidu's promises during the 'Meekosam' Chaitanya Yatra, launched by the party in Chittoor yesterday, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today alleged that he was making promises only to woo the people without considering facts.

Addressing a press conference, along with State Housing Minister B Satyanarayana, Commerical Tax Minister K Ramakrishna and Panchayat Raj Minister J C Diwakar Reddy, State Finance Minister K Rosaiah said the TDP's promises regarding providing 12 hours of free power supply to farmers, pensions for physically handicapped, widows and the elderly at the rate of Rs 500 per month and Rs 1,000 allowance for unemployed youth were aimed at cheating the people.

He wondered how Mr Naidu was making those promises when he had failed to implement them during his nine-year rule. When the farmers demanded seven hours of power supply by payment, he refused to heed their request and increased the power tariff seven times.

Mr Rosaiah alleged that it was the practice of the TDP President to speak in one voice when he was in power and differently when he was out of it. Mr Naidu was making unimaginable promises as his main intention was only to come to power, he added.

Reading out from the book 'Manasulomata', written by Mr Naidu, he said the TDP supremo had written in the book that it was difficult to provide rice at Rs two per kg on subsidy and free power to the farm sector.

The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) also ridiculed the promises made by the TDP President during the Chaitanya Yatra.

Party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy, while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters 'Gandhi Bhavan', alleged that the promises were being made, keeping in mind the ensuing elections in the State. The people would not believe the promises made by Mr Naidu as they were vexed with the TDP and ''anti-people and anti-farmer'' policies adopted during its regime.
