AIADMK advoctes seek anticipatory bail
Chennai, Apr 22 (UNI) Six AIADMK Advocates practising in Madras High Court have sought anticipatory bail, apperhending arrest for circulating a poem against the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
When the petition came up for hearing today, Mr Justice K N Basha, directed the Esplanade Police,Chennai, to file a counter on or before April 24.
In their petition, Mr R Balasubramaniam and five others submitted that Chief Minister M Karunanithi had brought in a Bill in Tamilnadu Assembly seeking to change the Tamil New year day from the first day of 'Chithirai' month to the first day of the Tamil month of 'Thai' by bringing through legislation. He had also published his poem in a Tamil daily criticising the people of Tamil Nadu, who celebrated the first day of 'Chithirai' as the Tamil New year Day on April 14.
The petitioners further submitted that they wrote a poem countering Mr Karunanidhi's poem and issued pamphlets. Prejudiced by this, a DMK oriented Advocate prefered a complained. On the complaint the esplanade police tresspassed into the petiioners' houses on the mid night of April 18 and behaved with them in a demeaning manner. Apprehending the arrest by the police, the petitioners sought anticipatory bail.
