New 'wet-clean' suits may spell the end of dry-cleaning bills

London, April 21 : Remaining fully suited and booted through those long, hot, sticky summers may not be a problem anymore, with new "wet-clean" suits coming into being.

Japanese menswear retailer Konaka and Australian Wool Innovation Ltd say that they have devised the first two-piece that can be washed in the shower each evening and be ready to wear again in the morning, without the need of ironing.

It is believed that the new suit may spell the end of dry-cleaning bills for white-collar workers.

The lightweight woollen suit, which bears the John Pearse tag, has been made using a fabric blend that includes polyester.

It has two special finishes that help it to maintain its shape.

"The suit is surprisingly light and comfortable, although probably not too warm in winter. Nor is it very waterproof. It only takes moments for it to become soaked once in the shower. It's definitely a summer suit," the Independent quoted its reporter Andrew Johnson, who tried the suit, as saying.

"Once hung up to dry, however, the miracle begins. The suit quickly drips to a damp state and the next day is bone dry with only one crease - where it should be, down the front of the trousers," he added.

One problem with the new suit, however, is that it is available only in Japan right now.
